This is a resource I use with students completing a Functional Skills - English/Literacy course. It is a Speaking and Listening task, where students have to partake in a group discussion lasting 10 minutes. The group discussion is about favourite foods. This resource could be used for SEN students, to support them with the Speaking and listening course criteria.

This is a PowerPoint presentation, which can also be printed out as an information booklet. It covers topics, such as: How to dress appropriately for the weather How to hail the bus What to do if you miss the bus What to do if you miss your stop Who to contact if there is a problem What to do if you feel overwhelmed while on the bus What to do if you get lost It is perfect for SEN students, Entry Level 1 to Level 2, to help support them in Travel Training sessions, so they can feel confident and gain independence.

Art and Design Curriculum Year Plan (I create a year plan first, to plan my year out before completing my Scheme of Learning). I like how you can see the whole year on one page :) The Year Plan can be put at the front of each students’ folder and the student can see where they’re up to too, ideal for SEN students who like to know what’s coming next! This Year Plan is for the academic year 2023-2024 and is easily adapted to suit your curriculum needs. The art curriculum incorporates a broad art curriculum of drawing, painting, collage, photography, sculpture and printing. It includes Equality & Diversity (E&D) opportunities and functional skills; as well as embedded NOCN Art course criteria (Art Appreciation, Painting, Drawing etc.) Suitable for Entry Level 1 to Level 2 students.

This in an 11 slide PowerPoint presentation can be used for students that require Rarpa (Recognising and Recording Progress and Achievement); it is linked to the 4 PfA (Preparing for Adulthood) goals/targets: Employment Skills Independent Living Skills Friends, Relationships and Community Skills Good Health Skills The PowerPoint explains the purpose of the Rarpa - Preparing for Adulthood goals and how students can work towards these during their college sessions or during tutorials.

This resource can be used for students that require Rarpa (Recognising and Recording Progress and Achievement); it is linked to the PfA (Preparing for Adulthood) goal/target: Employment Skills If students have set up their own personal employment skills goal, students can then provide photographic evidence for this via the sheet. There is also an accompanying witness statement sheet, where tutors or LSA’s can provide written evidence towards the goal.

Using the Pearson curriculum specification (although can easily be adapted to suit other awarding bodies such as NOCN or OCN). Starting the academic year 2023-2024. Useful as a guide when creating your scheme of work. Ideal for SEN students, the course curriculum is spaced out through the year to allow plenty of time for completion and repeat assessments if needed. It covers all five units: Using Devices and Handling Information Creating and Editing Communicating Transacting Being Safe and Responsible Online.

This is a 1 page resource that includes an Art rubric that can be used as a self assessment by students completing an art course. It is easily adaptable to suit whatever art criteria you need. I used it with my students with Autism who were completing Art NOCN (National Open College Network) courses. It is a good way for students to visually see how they are progressing throughout their Art course and what criteria is still left to achieve.

This is an Initial Assessment that I use with SEN students who require Travel Training sessions. The student fills in the assessment to gauge what the students are/are not confident with in regards to travelling on public transport (buses and the Metro or Tube). This information can then be used to inform Travel Training session content. I usually get the students to redo the assessment later in the year to determine the progress made. Easily adapted from Metro to Tube if needed.

This resource is a scenario where students can plan a trip to their local Starbucks cafe. You just need to add the appropriate info (street names etc.) for your local area! It gives advice to students of things they need to consider when planning their journey. It also encourages budgeting skills.

I use this resource with students that require Travel Training sessions. This is a short road safety quiz, with statistical information provided by the World Health Organisation about road traffic injuries in youths. It also provides information on how to cross the road safely.
